Victor E. Bulldog has the run of the Smittcamp House

October 12, 2016
The Alumni House at Fresno State is more than a house. It’s actually a playground.

Fresno State’s mascot Victor E can be seen running down the halls, riding in his wagon and playing with his favorite ball.

When he’s not in the office, Victor spends his days making appearances, going to events, driving around in his car and hanging with his new handler, Asheline Beeson.

“It’s a lot of fun. I’ve only been here for a short time, but in that time I’ve had a lot of fun,” Beeson says. “He goes to a lot of events. Everyone is always really excited to see him. I think he represents a lot for the university, so it’s kind of, he’s kind of a big deal.”

Victor attends a lot of games and events. He was recently at the Fresno State football game and the Central California Women’s Conference.

Even though he’s only eighteen months old, Victor seems to know how to handle the crowd.

Victor’s “mom,” Jacqui Glasener, is the one who sees both sides of Victor. The one at home and the one at school.

“Victor turns on the charm when he knows he is going to be going to an event or a room or something like that where he knows he’s got something to do,” Glasener says.

Victor E means a lot to Bulldog fans and to his fellow co-workers.

“It’s the best,” says Blair Smittcamp, assistant director of alumni and student engagement. “I really couldn’t ask for a better job, and so having Victor be here in our office you know, it’s the best wake up call at 8 in the morning when you walk in the door.”

Beeson has only worked with Victor for a few weeks, but she has caught on to his personality. Victor E is a bit of Fresno State royalty, and he knows it.

“He is a bit of a diva,” Beeson says.

Even though he knows he is famous, he is still a good sport.

“It’s a good time. He’s got a lot of personality so it makes everything a little more fun,” Beeson said.

It’s fun for the fifty-pound bulldog mascot and fun for the people who love him.
