About Us

Katerina Aleksenko, Reporter
Kat is a senior broadcast journalism student. She is drawn toward this major because it allows her to forever feed her curiosity, connect with her community, and use her skills in visual storytelling. Kat is also a singer/songwriter and performs around many local venues, wineries, restaurants, and events. When she’s not at school or working, she enjoys time with friends and family, hitting the gym, snowboarding, paddleboarding, biking, traveling, and salsa dancing.

Adore Berzamina, Reporter
Adore is a senior Mass Communication and Journalism (MCJ) major with an emphasis in broadcast journalism. Before switching to MCJ, Adore majored in music education where he was a member of the university’s marching band and wind orchestra. Adore eventually realized that being a music major was not for him and switched to MCJ, where he plans to pursue a sports media career in writing, on-camera analysis, or radio. He ultimately would love to work for a professional basketball team, whether the NBA, WNBA, or overseas. During his free time, Adore loves to listen to music, play basketball, watch WWE, and spend time with loved ones and family.

Emily Crabtree, Reporter
Emily is a senior Mass Communication and Journalism major with a focus in broadcast journalism. Emily transferred to Fresno State from Madera Community College where she earned her Associate Degree in Communication. Emily is also a graduate of Buchanan High School in Clovis and was a member of Buchanan’s Emmy award-winning news team. Emily works in production at KSEE 24 and CBS 47 in Fresno. Her goal someday is to end up on the other side of the camera as a news reporter. 

Ray Franco, Reporter
Ray is a fourth-year student Mass Communication & Journalism major with an option in broadcast and multiplatform journalism. His wants to get experience in the broadcast industry on air, producing newscasts, working as a videographer, and working in production. He works as an operation technician for KSEE 24 and CBS 47 in Fresno and is a trainee production director. Outside of that, he is a powerlifter for the Fresno State Powerlifting Club. He also likes to watch sports. His favorite teams are the San Francisco Giants, the Baltimore Ravens and the Los Angeles Lakers. His future goal is to work for a big company in a big city. 

Maxwell Gallegos, Reporter
Maxwell is a Mass Communication and Journalism major with a focus in broadcast journalism. One day he hopes to use the skills he learned during his major to get a job in sports and become an analyst or writer. He was awarded two scholarships before attending college which were the Schwab-Rosenhouse Memorial Scholarship and the Jewish Federation of the Sacramento Region. He also received The Elizabeth Pinkerton Family & History Happened Here Scholarship. Maxwell is from Sacramento and has great pride for his hometown. Outside of just getting a job in sports, his greatest aspiration is to work for the Sacramento Kings.

Carissa Guzman, Reporter
Carissa is a senior Mass Communication and Journalism major with an emphasis in broadcast journalism. She transferred from Fresno City College in Fall 2021 after graduating with an A.A. degree in Communication. Carissa has strong interests in music, pop culture, and the radio. She hopes to work in commercial radio in the future while having a show with pop culture/entertainment news segments. She interned for FSR Underground Radio in Fall 2023, where she produced “Carissa’s Radio Hour” and loved every minute of it. Outside of class, she loves to listen to her favorite music, go to concerts, and hang out with her family.

Eduardo Mata, Reporter
Eduardo is a fourth-year Mass Communication and Journalism major and is interested in everything behind the camera. He hopes to one day be a sportswriter or commentator.  Motivated by personal icons such as Stephen A. Smith and Shannon Sharpe, Eduardo wants to share his opinions with America. He has worked with Fresno State Athletics to edit content for social media and crewed for Fresno State Focus during the fall 2023 semester. In his spare time, Eduardo enjoys spending time with the brothers of Delta Sigma Phi.

Cesar Maya, Reporter
Cesar is a senior Mass Communication and Journalism major with an emphasis in broadcast journalism. Cesar is a graduate of Golden West High School in Visalia where he first began his journalism career as the school’s “Man on Campus.” This is his first semester as a reporter for Fresno State Focus, but he has previously been behind the scenes working as a director, technical director and camera operator. Cesar works for Fresno State’s student newspaper, The Collegian, and is also a member of the campus Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA) club. His goal is to continue working in broadcasting as a producer and aims to further tell people’s stories. 

Natalia Mendoza Camarena, Reporter
Natalia is a first-generation senior majoring in Mass Communication &
Journalism with a Spanish media minor. Natalia plans to graduate in May 2024. Her dream is to work for a sports organization whether it’s soccer, baseball, basketball or football. She transferred from College of the Sequoias in Visalia where she served as editor-in-chief for the Campus News Journal. In her free time, she likes to watch sports, travel and spend time with her family.

Ricky Oaks, Reporter
Ricky Oaks is a senior majoring in Mass Communication and Journalism with an emphasis in broadcast journalism. He earned his associate degree in communications at Madera Community College in 2021. Ricky plans to graduate from Fresno State in spring 2024 and hopes to become a play-by-play announcer or sports producer, while doing esports on the side. He started his journalism career writing for his high school paper and for “The Pagmeter” at 1430 ESPN Radio as a student reporter focusing on Kerman High School athletics. He expanded his skills in 2019 with an internship with the Cocola Broadcast Company where he broadcast Kerman High football for the season. After the pandemic, he finally got into Fresno State, where he became a part of the Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA), Fresno State Focus, and Fresno State Esports, where he is a volunteer broadcast and media director.

Ximena Ramos, Reporter
Ximena is a senior majoring in Mass Communication and Journalism with an emphasis in broadcast journalism. She is a part of the cross country and track team at Fresno State. She is pursuing her passion for sports alongside her studies. Ximena’s work ethic and determination make her a standout on the track; she embraces challenging workouts as opportunities to build mental and physical strength. This attitude has brought Ximena athletic success as a distance runner. Beyond athletics, Ximena demonstrates leadership on campus and in her community. She encourages younger runners on the team and has attended leadership conferences at Fresno State. In December, Ximena participated in a news camp to further develop her journalism skills. She leads by example – uplifting others without overshadowing them.

Summer Reyes, Reporter
Summer Reyes is a senior broadcast journalism major who plans on graduating in May 2024. Her focus is working as a reporter or behind the camera as a floor director for a studio. She received a certificate in reporting at Camp News and is a part of the Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA) club. Her interests include journalism and production as well as social media marketing. She also enjoys working as a saleswoman for Moxie Pest Services. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, shopping and hanging out with her friends and family.

Rene Rodriguez, Reporter
Rene Rodriguez is a senior Media Communication and Journalism major with an emphasis in broadcast journalism. His focus of interest is broadcast engineering, specifically for radio.  He has an information technology background and has always been a hands-on technical person, troubleshooting computers and various electronic devices. As an MCJ major, he is discovering the quality of his verbal and on-camera abilities.  He recently got the opportunity to collaborate with Toronto Metropolitan University’s RTA School of Media department.  He created a news story for a worldwide multimedia project called “The View From Here,” which features local perspectives from eight different countries on varying topics such as cost of living, transportation, food, hair, and more. In his free time, he enjoys being with family and friends, barbecuing, watching sports, going to the movies and concerts and meeting new people.

Yahaida Ruiz, Reporter
Yahaida is a first-generation student majoring in Mass Communication and Journalism with an emphasis in broadcast journalism. She graduated from Porterville College where she received her associate’s degree in communications before transferring to Fresno State. She will be graduating from Fresno State in May 2024 and has career aspirations of working on the radio or behind the scenes in television production. Her goal is to work in the entertainment industry. Some of her other interests include public relations and social media marketing. In her free time, she likes to go shopping, go to the gym and spend time with her friends and family.

Jackson Sanchez, Reporter
Jackson Sanchez is a senior majoring in Mass Communication and Journalism with an emphasis in broadcast journalism. He also is in the process of receiving his English Single Subject teaching credential. Jackson plans to graduate in the spring of 2024 and get his teaching credential in May 2026. After graduating, he hopes to teach high school English or become a live reporter for a broadcast news company. He started his journalism career at the age of 16 writing for his hometown paper, The Shafter Press, as a high school sports reporter. He elevated his skills in 2020 when he helped start and run the social media agency North Kern News, which covered all high school sports in the Central Valley. Jackson also has gained experience in front of the camera with the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) as a color broadcast announcer for Shafter High School’s football and basketball teams. During the past two years at Fresno State, Jackson has run the Fresno State Craig School of Business blog page, is part of Fresno State Focus, and has interned at the non-profit organization, The Make-A-Wish Foundation, as a profile story writer and marketing intern.

Al Scott, Reporter
Al Scott is a senior Mass Communication and Journalism major with an emphasis in broadcast and multiplatform journalism. He plans to graduate in fall 2024. In addition to attending Fresno State, Al has extensive experience doing public address announcing in the local sports community calling baseball, basketball, football and soccer games since 2016. He is in his fourth year as a contributor for The Collegian and his second as an officer for Fresno State’s RTDNA club. After graduating, he hopes to use his education as he pursues a career in sports media, in radio and/or television. When he is not watching and talking about sports, Al enjoys bowling and hanging out with his friends and family.

David Victor, Reporter
David Victor is a senior majoring in Mass Communication and Journalism with an emphasis in broadcast journalism. He is in his fourth semester at Fresno State. David is a Bay Area native from Oakland, California and has experience in journalism interning as a sports reporter for The Record in Stockton. He is also a reporter for The Collegian and a member of the Fresno State RTDNA Club. David attended San Joaquin Delta College in Stockton for nine years before transferring to Fresno State. He was awarded the Sinclair Broadcast Diversity and Stanley Stemmer Beaubaire Scholarships in 2023. David is a sports fan and has a tremendous passion for the game of soccer. He aspires to become a multiplatform sports journalist and cover major sporting events in the U.S. and across the globe.
