Proposition 64
If passed, Proposition 64 would make it legal for adults 21 and older to use marijuana recreationally in California.
Monica Cervantes says as a parent she doesn’t like the idea of legalizing marijuana because she has young children, but she says marijuana also has positive uses.
“It could be used for medicinal purposes,” Cervantes says. “And if it’s available for those that have medical issues, they could benefit.”
Fresno State student Dorothy Sweat says that legalizing marijuana could prevent people from going to jail. “It’s less common for people to go to jail or prison for substance abuse,” Sweat says.
Tajah Russell says if marijuana becomes legal, there could be negative effects.
“I’m not for proposition 64,” Russell says. “If marijuana gets legalized, they’re going to raise taxes on it and tamper with it more than what it needs to be, and I just feel like its going to be detrimental than what it is now.”
Proposition 64 will be on the ballot November eighth.
