Bulldog Marching Band alumnus highlights band through video

FRESNO, Calif. –On game day, the music and energy of the Bulldog Marching Band erupt from Bulldog Stadium.

Capturing every performance is Michael Wootten, a founding member of the band’s media team.

Wootten is the Bulldog Marching Band’s digital media director and is also a videographer and photographer during all band events.

Through his work, Wootten has been able to combine his passions and highlight the band in a way he says not any ordinary videographer can do.

“It’s an opportunity to bridge together two things that I love so much and that is videography and music,” Wootten says. “I really think that marching arts videography is something that really takes someone who knows both of those things so well to do correctly.”

Wootten is no stranger to working with the Bulldog Marching Band. Just two years ago, he was a member of the band’s drum line. Current members of the band say that because Wooten was just in their shoes, he has an advantage to showcase the band in a unique way.

“It’s really neat to show the level, the high level of creativity we have in our music and our performing,” Bulldog Marching Band member Lucia Montiano says. “Michael is so good at capturing that and he’s so dedicated to where the Bulldog Marching Band comes from.”

Jonathon Bravo is a band member and is also a member of the digital media team. Bravo works closely with Wootten as the social media director and says that Wooten’s work has already made a significant impact on social media.

“In just the past nine months we have seen about a 36 percent increase in likes and follows across the board for all of our social media platforms,” Bravo says.

Wootten says he is grateful for the opportunity to still have a role with the band because being a part of the band completely shaped his entire experience at Fresno State.

“This is just the most incredible thing I’ve ever done in my life,” Wootten says.
