The Recharge Zone
The Recharge Zone is a place where students can catch a nap before heading to class. It was created in Spring 2017 as part of the new renovation to the University Student Union at Fresno State. The nap area is designed for students who don’t have time to go home and rest between classes.
“When I first used it, it felt like I was in a dentist chair,” says Danielle Sigala, customer service representative. “That’s what it reminded me of. But you can adjust the settings to how far back you want it to go. It has music you can play but I personally want to listen to my headphones.”
Fresno State got the idea from Google headquarters, where these nap pods are very popular. Right now, there are only two pods on the Fresno State campus, but staff says if students want more pods the University will consider getting more.
The Recharge Zone is only for students (no staff or professors.) Reservations are required for a quick 30 – 60 minute nap. You can find these napping pods downstairs near the bowling alley in the USU.
