Pink Heals
During Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Buchanan High School holds an annual tournament, but for one group the awareness is year round.
“The mission of Pink Heals is to bring love, hope and support to anybody in our community that is battling any type of a life threatening disease,” says Lisa Benham, President of Pink Heals.
Visiting homes of women from all over the Valley, Pink Heals brings that love and support in truck loads.
Painted pink and sirens on the group partners with the Clovis Fire Department and Police Department when visiting these women.
“We can put a smile on someone’s face that may not have much longer to live, or is in the middle of their battle or that has kicked cancer’s butt and is doing well…, Benham says.
In between radiation and surgery, Vicki Hampton is one of the women surprised by the trucks and crowds who gathered around her while home.
“I had gotten very down and discouraged and tired of the whole cancer battle so it was such a motivation to have so many people come to my home and they all prayed and I mean it was unbelievable,” Hampton says.
Not only does Pink Heals affect those they are visiting, but all involved.
“You see that feeling that they get when they see all these people that are complete strangers that are taking time out of their day to come say ‘hello’ and wish them the best. It’s instant. It’s like a drug. You’re just immediately hooked and you wanna continue doing it and helping these people,” says Nolan Stempson, the chief at the Clovis Fire Department.
Pink Heals does visits year around as well as fundraisers. They sell their infamous Pink Heals shirts, sweaters and more. All in an effort to support their cause.
