Free FAX Bus Rides

Fresno State has a lot of discounts for students including free bus passes. The Fax Bus runs throughout the city of Fresno. And it’s a free ride for students with their student ID cards.

Denisse Vargas, a junior majoring in Psychology, rides the bus to school twice a week two times a day and questions its safety. “Random people do come on and so you never know what can happen,” Vargas says.

Joe, who uses the bus for transportation every day says he’s never seen anything bad happen and feels it’s safe.

Although, Vargas’ home is only a ten-minute walk to and from campus, she takes the bus because she does not want to walk home at night. “I’ve been really taking advantage of the fact that it’s free,” Vargas says. “I’m already paying tuition and stuff, and I don’t work right now so it makes it really easy to come to school.”

Commuting to school can really be expensive for students. The parking permit for Fresno State students cost $95, and sometimes parking is hard to find. The FAX bus is free and drops off students right in front of the school. The bus helps students get to school when they do not have a car or extra money for a parking pass.

While the bus may make life easier on the wallet, Vargas says figuring out the route can be confusing. “There’s nothing online where it tells you exactly what you are supposed to do. It was so frustrating. Like I wanted to break down and cry,” Vargas says.

It may be a little confusing at first, but there are a few ways to figure out your route. One way is to call Fresno Area Express to see what stop to take or check out the schedule online at fresno.gov.

Anyone without a Fresno State ID card can ride the FAX bus for a $1.25.
