Pro Soccer in Fresno
Professional soccer is here and it’s called Fresno FC. The new team is excited about what the city of Fresno has to offer, and what professional soccer can offer the city. “Well I think it’s historic now that we have a professional team in the Central Valley. Fresno never had a pro team and I think that once the city gets ahold of this they’re going to love it,” said General Manager Frank Yallop.
This may be the first professional soccer team, but for years the city supported a minor league team, Fresno Fuego. The FC players and coaches are excited about the already strong fan base and support in the city. “I’m super excited, as well as everybody else you know. A lot of the guys who are locally from here have told us a lot about the Fuego and what soccer means to the community, so we’re all really excited to really perform,” said Midfielder Agustin Cazarez.
With the city behind his team, Head Coach Adam Smith hopes hard work can help make the first season a special one. “Now it’s putting everything into practice so that we can be prepared and ready come March seventeenth and then you need a lot of things to come together you know if the team goes out there and competes and plays with a lot of heart and a lot of passion, we will have chance,” Smith said.
The United Soccer League has thirty-three teams in the league and they play over a span eight months. The inaugural 2018 season began in March and runs through to October.
