Career Fair
Career fairs give students and recent graduates a change to get some coaching on their resumes or even how to find and interview for a job.
A career fair was held for the BEA Convention in Las Vegas this past week.
Michelle Duke, a recent career fair organizer explains why it’s so important for students and graduates to attend career fairs. “It’s important because broadcasters are always looking for a good fit for their company. They’re looking for the best and the brightest talent. Our goal here is to attract not only recent graduates or students who are looking for internships, but also attract individuals that have years of experience,” Duke says.
Industry professionals say often it’s not what’s on the resume that can sell or sink a candidate. “How they present themselves. It’s very important to see the type of people you want to hire for a job,” says a representative for the Actualidad Media Group.
For every hopeful employee walking through the career fair, there’s a recruiter looking for unique qualities. That may come from the first impression, or the strength of a handshake that leaves a lasting impression.
A Chico State student is looking to network. “Since I’m graduating in two months, it’s good to branch out and make connections,” he said.
Whether you’re a student, a recent graduate, or a veteran to the industry, there are many opportunities at a career fair.
