Porterville Rescue Mission
The Porterville Rescue Mission is a Christian based organization and home for some. It can be a rough road for people who do not have financial or emotional support. Some people are even doing their prison time there. The Rescue Mission does not turn anyone away. It’s a place where people come together for faith, friends and community.
Ricky Terrail is an ex-convict and is changing his life because of the Rescue Mission. Terrail has been clean for 15 years and says, “They’ve given me shelter, food but the most important thing they have given me – enough time and advice to get my life back together.” Terrail wants to go back to school and help the Rescue Mission and give back the way he was helped.
Esther Ramirez is the new pastor and director of the Rescue Mission and is constantly giving back to the community of Porterville. She leads bible studies every Tuesday and Sunday. The food that is provided there comes from donations. There is a 12 dorm room for men. Right now, the Rescue Mission is building women’s dorm rooms. Ramirez has a goal. She says, “Families to reconnect again. You know when you are dealing with addiction, the live recovery program, you know all those family ties are broken. Then that starts restoring those relationships with family.”
The men and women are working towards going home and completing the Twelve Steps recovery program. Ramirez wants to reunite families again all with using the word of God. The goal of the Rescue Mission is to give hope and faith to those who lost it.
