Working to Improve the Status of Women
Grab your pen and paper and listen up, because these women have something to say. The number one question being asked during a recent empowerment summit in Stockton is “What can be done to improve the status of women?”
“I think that the more that we put this out to women I think that they will feel more comfortable to come forward and give the information we are looking to collect and need to improve the health, the income, the different social economics for women,” attendee Tisha Macias said.
This was one of many steps to bringing awareness to women’s issues in Central California. Stockton Mayor Michael Tubbs said they are starting the conversation in Stockton and men have something to say too.
“I think it’s our job to make it so it’s not just women who are speaking about these issues,” Tubbs said.
Women like Senator Holly Mitchell, CEO of Children’s Home in Stockton, and even Stockton’s First-Lady Anna Tubbs shared what issues are most important to them.
“For me, a lot of it is about the safety of women and the reduction of violence against women,” Anna Tubbs said.
The status of women is always changing but Anna Tubbs told those in attendance that it is important to do the things women do “to help all of the work that is already being done by organizations and individuals who work on women’s issues.”
Another summit will be held at the 31st annual Central California Women’s Conference, which takes place on September 25 at the Fresno Convention Center.
