JAZZ/BLUES BAR ATTRACTS EVERYONE
Fresno’s historic Tower District has always given people something to do just about every night.
Lucy’s Lounge has provided live music for anyone inside six nights a week. The music played at the bar primarily focuses on music from different generations, with a huge focus of blues and jazz.
Since the bar opened its doors last October, it has been doing well. People are loving the live music that’s provided for free. The bar has developed regulars who come back and play frequently. David Aus played piano one Wednesday night, now he plays every Wednesday night.
The bar opened with the intention of providing live music, mostly blues and jazz, to anyone and everyone. Even with these genres that go back decades, people in their early 20s flock to the bar.
Sarah Primavera has worked at the bar since they opened and is the current manager. When asked about the younger people in the bar, she said “you know history always repeats itself, so sometimes things might go out of fashion for a little bit, but they’ll come back. Something like jazz and blues is always going to be around.”
Young people are checking in to see the live music, but not too young. The place is still a bar so one must be at least 21 years of age to enter.
The bar provided all the options anyone would ever need. Don’t drink? Just grab some Italian food and the restaurant connected to the bar.
Not a fan of beer or liquor? The Lounge thought of that and made sure to have a large wine selection for their patrons as well.
The Lounge provided an atmosphere that was somewhat lacking in the Tower District: a fun place to enjoy the oldies. The employees didn’t originally expect the younger demographics but love it. “I think bringing that experience to a younger generation carries on traditions,” Primavera said. “They can learn a lot about different genres they might nor normally hear on a regular.”
The young bar just turned one year old on October 16.
