FRESNO FAIR MARCHING BAND COMPETITION
On October 3, the Fresno Fair held their 8th annual marching band review for the local middle schools and high schools. Over 20 schools attended the event. For some, it was their first time winning in front of a large audience; for others, it was a chance at redemption, and for many, it was their last year to participate in this festival.
Valerie Ya, a student at Weaver Middle School, participated in the event. Valerie was happy that her school came in first place. “We worked really hard for this win,” she said. Weaver Middle School took home 3 awards, including the the grand sweepstakes.
For some of the students, winning wasn’t the only thing they were looking for. Leo Paragili, a Edison High School student, wanted a chance at redemption: “Last year, when I was at the fair I didn’t do too well, and, I kinda saw this year as sort of like redemption.” Leo took home second place in the event, and is looking forward to next year’s competition.
Just as new students are introduced, veterans must learn to say goodbye. For Renisha Muhar, a Fowler High senior, this was her last chance to participate. Although she did not place, she said “I’m going to miss hanging out with the band, coming with the band, and the experience of it all.” Renisha was one of many seniors who had to say goodbye, but they will always have their memories and experiences.
The marching band review brings Central Valley schools together every year. If you missed this year’s event, the next Marching Band competition will be held at the Fresno Fair next fall.
