STUDENT THOUGHTS ON TITLE IX TRAINING
Each year, Fresno State students and faculty are required to complete sexual violence prevention training, also known as Title IX.
“The length of if, I feel like it takes too long,” said Jamie Marez.
Several students had similar responses when they were asked on how they felt about the yearly training.
Jamie Holigan, the Title IX coordinator, shared why it was important for students and faculty to do the training. “That is both a good thing to do, and also it’s required by the violence against women act and also by Title IX, which is federal law. So it governs our policies and processes on campus and what the university requires.”
Despite its length, students seem to benefit. Student Malakeh Jaber said, “I think it’s important for us to go through the training, because it’s relatable. I have learned a lot. I feel like I know what to do now in case it happens to me or my friends.”
Some students believed there were different ways to approach the required training. Karmen Gradillas felt that it was repetitive. “Every year is kinda tedious, maybe every other, or two years would be better.”
The Title IX training needs to be completed before registering for classes. It typically takes about an hour and can be done online through each student portal.
