Midterm Election 2018
Fresno State
Nov 6, 2018 Becca Colburn -

VOTING BY MAIL WINS FOR SOME FRESNO STATE STUDENTS

Some Fresno State students found it more convenient to vote by mail in the 2018 midterm election than to head to the polls. For Asher Morely, the process made sense for multiple reasons: “I vote by mail because the city that i’m registered to vote in doesn’t have any polls, but it’s also a lot more convenient.”

Some students are too busy to stand in line to vote. “Usually when you go there it’s a long line and I don’t want to deal with all that,” said Nikki Gurgiolo.

Nikki also liked that voting by mail also gives voters more time to research issues and find more information on the candidates on the ballots. “If there’s something there that you don’t really know, then you can research it online to get more info on it. I just feel like you have a lot more time to like just do it then over there.”

Those with anxiety also preferred the vote-by-mail process. “I have social anxiety and I find it more convenient because i have more time to vote instead of going in and not knowing who I want to vote for yet,” said student Jackie Espindola.

To apply to vote by mail for future elections, you can download the application at http://elections.cdn.sos.ca.gov.
