CUSTOMER SERVICE
By Cassadie Lopez
“Have a good day,” says the retail assistant who just helped you purchase your items or who helped you find the item you were searching for.
Reviews and the number of star ratings any business gets comes down to the quality of the service an employee provides to his or her customer. With that being said, employees try their best to make sure they provide their guest with the best customer service possible, however that may not always be the case. With the start of the holiday shopping season, sometimes customers take out their holiday stress on store employees who are just trying to help.
“I think of myself as a guest or customer,” says Stephanie Hernandez, a Target Corporation employee. “If I see a package open, I’m not going to want that package because it’s open. People have been through it, looking at it. So I would want the other package that’s not open. The customer is always right because I am a customer as well.”
Many employees understand where their customers are coming from because when they are not working than they, too, are customers shopping for the best deals, as much as anyone else does. However, there is a handful of people who seem to enjoy complaining,
Shane Knight works for Walmart. “You always get that one customer who has been like ‘I been waiting here for 30 minutes’ and it’s like, Sir, I just saw you walk up,” Knight says. He says it can be frustrating when there is only one person to assist a large number of people.
Holiday shopping gets busy. Black Friday means everyone and their relatives are going to be shopping. Remember to be patient with employees and that everyone is human and can only do so much at one time. The best advice: Treat others how you want to be treated.
