COMMUTING
There is no doubt that Fresno State is a commuting school with a lot of smaller towns surrounding it. Many students commute two or more hours a day to attend classes at Fresno State. And many say the time on the road takes time away from the books and reduces productivity.
Media, Communications and Journalism major Carl Licuanan has commuted from Madera for the last three years.
“Sometimes I just want to nap,” Licuanan says. He doesn’t get a lot of time to relax because of 45 minute commute each way five days a week. Although living on campus or moving to Fresno is expensive, Licuanan says if a student decides to commute he or she should “be prepared to save money for gas, because it does add up.”
Another Fresno State MCJ major, Jose Puga, lived in Fresno his first two years at Fresno State but moved back to his hometown of Hanford last year. “Although I wish I still lived here in Fresno, moving back to Hanford is cheaper and having a 4-cylinder car helps when commuting.”
Puga and Licuanan say if you’re going to commute, you need to plan ahead because you can’t just run home if you forget something.
