RODEO TEAM ROPES IN MEMORIES AND MORE
The Fresno State Rodeo Team is a club sport on campus that competes in multiple events at college rodeos. Some of the events are team roping, calf roping, and bulldogging. Team member Rial Engelhart explained these events:
“Team roping I heel, so I rope the back feet. Calf roping, you rope the calf and tie three legs, and bulldogging is pretty self-explanatory; you just throw the steer down.”
The team has an arena on campus where they are able to board their horses and visit at any time. They practice and tend their horses on their own around their busy schedules, but they also get together and practice as a team. For most members, their favorite moments on the Rodeo Team have been spent at practice.
“It’s just a lot of fun, you meet a lot of new people, and we always have a good time when were practicing or hanging out after practice and stuff, just a lot of good people” said Kelly Greif, another member of the team.
The Bulldoggers Rodeo Team helps students feel more connected at Fresno State and gives them an outlet on campus.
Senior on the team, Meagan Coppo stated, “I think it helps because if you just go to class, go home, and go to work, it’s not as fun and exciting. But I can go to class and then come out here, hang out, rope the dummy, ride –do whatever we can do out here. So it’s nice to have people to come hang out with, and you’ve got your horses on campus so it’s good, too.”
Club sports like the Fresno State Rodeo Team are a great opportunity for Bulldog students to make achievements and memories during their college career.
