THE IMPACT OF SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS

Stephen Hillenburg, the creator of the beloved show, Spongebob Squarepants, passed away at the age of 57. Spongebob fans come together to remember their favorite memories and episodes of the show while paying tribute to it’s creator. I spoke to Skylar Munkers, Yadira Arredondo, and Chris Gonzales about the impact Spongebob has had on them personally and our generation.

“Our generation, we grew up with the day one episodes.” says Yadira as she reminisces about her favorite episodes. She loves the Krusty Krab pizza episode the most, “because it shows everybody’s character in one whole episode.” The dynamic between Mr. Krabs, Spongebob, and Squidward is showcased very well throughout the episode.

As far as the characters go, Skylar’s favorites are Plankton and Squidward. “As you get older you start to relate [to them] more. You start to see what their struggles are and you go, ‘Wow! Its really annoying having to deal with all of these other obtuse characters.’” says Skylar. Yadira also relates to Squidward, however, Chris considers himself to be more of a Spongebob due to his great work ethic and optimism. Find out more about the impact of Spongebob on our generation by listening to the podcast.
