Fresno S.E.R.V.E. Day 2018
November is a month for giving thanks, and Fresno State’s S.E.R.V.E. Day allowed students the chance to appreciate their community, while serving others in need.
Fresno State’s Service Experience with Richter Volunteer Events, also known as S.E.R.V.E., teamed up with Habitat for Humanity on November 17th, 2018 to help renovate a house that needed some extra love. “It’s Mr. Khromes house and we’re in west Fresno and the act of kindness is that he just needed a little spruce up to his yard and make his house look more… I don’t know the word, special. We just wanted to love on him a little bit and just a little beautification to the house and it looks really nice,” said Rosie, a Habitat for Humanity leader.
Fresno S.E.R.V.E. day is a student led and run event. From planning stages to the on-site leadership, students do it all. “It’s really fun to work with the different community partners that we do with the Richter Center. And it’s actually my first time working with Habitat for Humanity and I know a bunch of my peers have worked here for Habitat on different paint projects, so I really wanted to experience that with this project,” said Fresno State Senior and volunteer Robie.
The S.E.R.V.E. committee was founded in 2011 and has been growing stronger every year because of the relationships the organization has made.
Although students are busy with the semester coming to an end, they are still finding joy and the time to help out someone less fortunate. If it’s an hour of your day or maybe even a small donation, a little can go a long way in making the Fresno community a better place to live.
