AMERASIA CULTURE DAY 2019
Fresno State held its annual Amerasia Culture Week from March 11-16. Its finale showcased diverse Asian and Pacific Islander groups from the Central Valley.
Performances included Hawaiian Hula dancing, Thai, Laos and Cambodian dances, a Kendo demonstration and a special fashion show that spotlighted the diversity among the countries and cultures of both Asia and the Pacific Island Nations.
“Well, I hope based on the performances that they were able to see, I want students to recognize that there is more than one Asian culture out there,” said Amerasia Organization President, Catherine Nguyen. “I want them to recognize that there is a diverse amount of Asian American students here at Fresno State, and not even just Fresno State but the Fresno and Clovis community as well.”
Events such as the Amerasia Culture Week are a great opportunity for students to learn more about their culture and traditions.
“Especially for Asian American students, you kind of get representation within the events at Fresno State, which kind of highlights the diversity of our campus. As an Asian American, I think that’s very important to have,” said Fresno State Student, Ramuel Reyes.
If you want to learn more about the Amerasia Organization, anyone is welcome to join the club regardless of ethincity.
“You don’t have to be Asian, in fact that is what we want to target those who aren’t Asian,” said Nguyen.
The next Amerasia Culture Week event is expected to take place in Spring 2020.
