CINECULTURE
Talking about racial diversity and cultural awareness can be complex, and topics that some people may prefer to avoid.
But at Fresno State, there are clubs and events like CineCulture, where students are given a safe space to talk about a variety of topics and gain a broader understanding in diversity.
The CineCulture lineup is released at the beginning of every semester with the times and dates of each event.
Mary Husain, CineCulture coordinator, said that each event includes a guest speaker, a cultural film and a post-screening discussion.
“There’s an emphasis for respect on diversity and for intercultural understanding. Also, it’s very unique in the sense that students have the opportunity to interact with community members and every week is a new adventure.”
Whether it’s for class credit or to get a better understanding on cultural topics, many students love attending the events because of its focus on diversity.
“Personally I love events like these at Fresno State just because it focuses it mainly on diversity and that is what this school is about. As a social worker, I feel like it is good to be aware of oppression, prejudice and stuff,” said Karina Cervantes, Fresno State senior.
CineCulture is held in the Peters Auditorium and is free to all students and members of the community.
