INTRAMURAL SPORTS: A WAY FOR COLLEGE STUDENTS TO STAY ACTIVE
Intramural sports are a way for students to stay active and meet new friends.
“Joining a team doesn’t take up that much of your time between classes, homework and exams,” said graduate student Allison Pharris.
There are many sports being offered at Fresno State. The first Friday night bowling league starts in the beginning of October.
The bowling team is one intramural coordinator Craig Parichan has been trying to get for a while.
“We’re not here to destroy a team. We’re just here to have fun. It’s like an outlet from class. People could go out; people could do this, but this is a part of college,” Parichan said.
Any college student can join intramural sports. There are men’s, women’s, and co-ed teams and an open division with no gender requirements.
“You just get a group of buddies around. You go out. A lot of us are just washed up high school athletes, so it’s just a good time to get back out here,” said Lane Mallonee, a graduate student.
To participate, sign up through the IMLeagues website.
Intramural sports attract 700 to 800 students every semester. The deadline to register is different for each sport.
Parichan hopes that more students will sign up before registration ends.
