MAIN COMMENCEMENT CANCELED
It’s only March, but graduation is a hot topic a little early this semester.
Fresno State is joining 21 other CSU campuses in canceling the main commencement ceremony.
University Communications sent out an email from President Castro in January to all Fresno State students announcing the cancelation, but some seniors missed the memo and feel that the news should have been more urgently delivered to them.
“I actually didn’t even know at all that it was canceled, but now I guess that I know. I’m not super broken up about it, but knowing that it would’ve been canceled would’ve probably been kinda nice,” said Renee Nassrallah, who is graduating this spring.
According to the email, over 6,000 students graduated in May 2019, but only 703 showed up to walk at the main commencement ceremony.
All eight colleges will be holding individual commencement ceremonies on May 15 and 16, so students are still able to celebrate their achievements in a more intimate way.
The commencement schedule has been emailed to all Fresno State students and is also available on the Fresno State website under “Ceremonies.”
