Super Tuesday Recap- Who will be the next Mayor of Fresno?
FRESNO, Calif. — On Super Tuesday night, The Elbow Room hit maximum capacity as Jerry Dyer supporters stood to show their support at his campaign party.
The room was filled as people had to squeeze through to get by.
Lupe Espinoza came to cheer on the former police chief, even though she didn’t vote for him.
“I don’t live in Fresno but had I, I would have. I did live in Fresno. I look forward to seeing what his plans are or solutions that we property owners are facing with homelessness,” Espinoza said.
Dyer served more than 40 years in law enforcement in Fresno. His wife is looking forward to his career change.
“I’ve been supporting him since from the beginning,” Diana Dyer said.
Dyer said the last nine months have taken a toll on him and his family.
“We worked hard for nine months,” Dyer said. “She can tell you that when you’re in a campaign it’s everything. You wake up thinking about it. You go to bed thinking about it. And, you’re always thinking you can do more. There’s no coach time. There’s no ahh I think I’ll still sit down. No, because then you feel guilty because you’re not walking in a neighborhood. So, it’s all-consuming.”
Dyer’s platform is “One Fresno” to address homelessness.
“I voted for Jerry Dyer because I believe in him,” said Annie Rini, executive assistant for the City of Fresno. “He’s a good man. He’s got a good heart, and I do believe in him creating One Fresno. And his heart is in the right place, and this is his calling. All the negative people need to realize he is a good man.
The results finally came in on March 4, 2019, showing Jerry Dyer in the lead with 54% and Andrew Janz at 36%.
Even though the numbers speak to a win for Dyer, he’s not yet made a formal announcement. Andrew Janz has not conceded.
