Brow businesses growing with clients’ help
Alma Cortez began her brow business in Fresno in 2017.
“Back then I was still fairly new,” Cortez says. “I was booked on my first day but I didn’t really know what the future had in store for me. I didn’t know if I was going to be busy in the future. I knew I wanted to. I didn’t know how long it would take, so I basically developed a plan for myself that helped me move in the direction that I wanted to go to.”
Cortez expanded her business into a beauty line of eyebrow products. She opened a second location in Hollywood with the help of Clainay Wells, the owner of the Seasoned Trends Studio in Los Angeles.
“Fresno is her home. Seasoned Trends is her home. But she has the capability and professionalism and skillset to go far beyond here,” Wells says. “And if I can help her do that, I am team Alma.”
Cortez says that her success wouldn’t have happened without the help of her coworkers and clients.
“I could have moved, you know. I could have gone elsewhere, but staying here I feel like–it feels like home.”
Alma Cortez’s advice to women looking to grow their own businesses is to not give up, stay consistent, communicate, and don’t be afraid to ask for help.
