Sports leagues show off their video game skills

March 12th will be known as the day sports stopped. Since that day, we have seen professional sports leagues such as the NBA, NHL, and MLB either suspend or delay their seasons.

Since that day, the leagues have been trying to come up with different ways to keep fans entertained. In basketball, players are trading in their basketballs for video game controllers.

The NBA and the popular basketball video game series NBA 2K partnered up to put together a 16-player tournament to see who will be crowned champion in the NBA 2K Tournament. The winner will receive a $100,000 donation that will go to coronavirus relief efforts.

The tournament hosted players that included Kevin Durant, Donovan Mitchell and more. The final round saw a clash between Phoenix Suns teammates Devin Booker and Deandre Ayton with Booker coming out on top to be crowned the 2K Tournament Champion.

Basketball wasn’t the only sport to show off video game skills. In baseball, the MLB and the popular baseball video game MLB The Show put together the MLB Players League.

One player from each of the 30 teams will compete head-to-head. The winner will not only be crowned champion but will also receive a $25,000 donation that will go towards the Boys and Girls Club of their community. $5,000 will also be donated on behalf of each participant to the clubs in their communities.

The Players League is still ongoing and fans can tune in to watch these games through live-streams on all of MLB’s social media accounts as well as Twitch.
