The Textbook Bundle
Textbooks play an important factor in student’s success but following safety guidelines due to Covid-19 changed the simple process of checking out a textbook. At Buchanan High School, librarian Suzanne Streeter decided on a prepackaged book bundle method. “We kind of had to reshuffle how we do things. For our own safety and the student’s safety on campus,” she said.
A few weeks into the semester, students that missed their pick up appointments at the start of the school year were given the chance to stop by for a fast, easy, and safe distribution. The library staff prepared bundles for each of those students.
With schedule in hand, the library staff was able to gather all the books needed for that individual student. The next day the textbooks were ready for pick up.
“We have them sorted by grade so our runners will just take the ID card, match the pile of books to the ID, make sure it’s the right person and just hand them the books because the books will already be prechecked out,” said Streeter.
Streeter hopes to be able to help students throughout the year. Like teachers, the librarians has also had to reimagine their routines.
