Re-election held for student body president
Elizabeth Rocha Zuñiga was elected as ASI student body president in a re-election held September 30. Fresno State Associated Students Incorporated (ASI) held the new election after the former president-elect, Ruby Muniz, was disqualified for election-related bribery in April.
After Muniz won the original election, a student posted a screenshot of messages from the candidate offering an Amazon gift card in exchange for proof of a student’s vote.
The student court ruled that Muniz violated the ASI code of ethics.
In a special student senate meeting, Muniz said, “this process has been handled wrong and I personally have been treated unfairly and the decisions due to this process are actionable by blank failure of leadership in this organization.”
Student court Justice, Fidel Moreno-Meza, said, “If it hadn’t been posted in the Facebook page book advice I think that ASI and a lot of other students would have overlooked it and I’m glad it was able to gain that traction. “
Muniz was not allowed to participate in the re-election. Naila Estrada and Elizabeth Rocha Zuñiga were the only two candidates on the ballot.
