President Castro selected as the next CSU Chancellor, but what does that mean?
President Castro has been selected as the next Chancellor to the CSU system, a huge announcement not just for Fresno State, but for the CSU as a whole.
But what does a Chancellor do?
Michael Uhlenkamp, spokesperson for the California State University office of the Chancellor provided some detail.
“All 23 campus presidents report to the chancellor, so the chancellor is in charge of the selection process those individuals and of the chancellor’s office itself.”
The chancellor is also essentially a huge driving force when it comes to CSU policy.
“He or she is responsible for all the policy or implementing the policy or adding or changing policy and they act as the ambassador to the universities,” said Uhlenkamp.
How did Joseph Castro land as the winner?
“We gathered a lot of information on what people wanted to see in their next chancellor, then from that we put together a paper for all the applicants saying this is what we’re looking for. These are the candidates. And then we hired a search firm and they brought us candidates,” stated CSU Board of Trustees Chairwoman Lillian Kimbell.
From those candidates list of candidates, Joseph Castro shined above the rest. Now he is equally as excited to see who follows him as Fresno State’s next president.
President Castro will begin his duties as chancellor on January 4th, 2021. In the meantime, the California State University in partnership with Fresno State will begin looking for the campus’ next president.
