New Café Inspired by Frida Kahlo
Mexican artist Frida Kahlo inspired Frida Café, a new coffee shop in downtown Fresno. The vibe and energy in this shop is surreal.
“Frida Kahlo inspired me with her art, to me she was very indragenous and dare I say a supporter of the LGBTQ community because she was known for being bisexual and I’m able to relate to that,” said Café owner Albee Sanchez.

Sanchez always dreamed of owning a coffee shop. He had the opportunity to manage a coffee shop in Los Angeles, where learned a lot.
“It taught me appreciation about coffee, specifically espresso,” Sanchez said. “I knew immediately, I was like one day I’m going to open a shop; I already know, and it’s going to be Latino themed.”

Opening up during the pandemic was a big move, but Sanchez says it’s going well.
In fact, he has customers from as far as the Bay Area. Some bring him gifts, like this Frida Kahlo succulent.

Sanchez put a lot of thought into his coffee shop. He develops his coffee recipes so he is able to transcends Kahlo’s art into them.
He uses different organic colorings to make colored drinks and match the different colors of paint.
“All of our drinks come in different colors, some are red, orange, green, blue and the colors are only going to expand from here,” Sanchez said.
