Thurman Orthodontics Helping the Community

Thurman Orthodontics in Fresno try to help the community whenever they can. The staff, the “Smile Squad,” is helping those affected by the Creek Fire in the Sierra National Forest.

The effort began with the Smile Squad donating items that were needed by evacuees. Soon patients wanted to help. So the Squad turned their office into a donation drop off.

“For a couple of weeks we had people dropping off items like blankets and clothes, diapers and wipes; whatever the need was for that day,” said Dani Mosqueda, a staff member at Thurman Orthodontics.

The Smile Squad also started a match program. If patients brought in cash or gift card as donations, the Squad applied that to their accounts.

“Say a patient dropped off a hundred dollar gift card, then we would donate that for them,” Mosqueda said. “Then we would take off one hundred dollars of their account, just as a thank you.”

October 28 was ‘National First Responders Day’, so the Smile Squad supported local firefighters and first responders by donating five dollars for each new patient who started treatment in October.

They don’t call the staff at Thurman Orthodontics, the Smile Squad for no reason! This is not the first time they have helped the community or had giveaways.

Thurman Orthodontics gave away five Google Chromebooks to help families when COVID 19 first hit.

They also have the spotting contest: If anyone from the Smile Squad spots a vehicle with a Thurman magnet on their car, they are entered to win free braces.
