Student teachers who attend Fresno State are pushing for a change
Student teachers who attend Fresno State are pushing for a change. Many are growing frustrated with their virtual education.
While teachers are teaching virtually from their classrooms, student teachers are not allowed to be on campus.
Back in August, student teachers were notified that clinical practices would be 100 percent online.
Fresno State student teachers have signed and sent a letter of grievance to President Castro. They are asking to be given the option to choose between virtual teaching or being on campus with their mentor teacher.
Gaining hands-on classroom experience without a classroom and supplies has been hard for many of the student teachers.
Fresno state credential program student Rachel Duarte said, “in the classroom, you have scanners, laminators and the big stuff for your students. Here I have to makeshift stuff or buy stuff on my own. It’s not provided for me. It is hard to navigate the learning process throughout the day when we are not next to each other.”
If student teachers are given the chance to be on campus and in the classroom with their mentor teachers they plan to wear a mask and practice social distancing.
