Celebrating Halloween during COVID
Halloween may look different this year thanks to COVID-19, but Katherine Provchy, a mom of four, has decided to include her kids in trick-or-treating. They will wear masks, carry hand sanitizer, and keep their circle small, unlike in past years.
“We think its worth it to go out and give the kids a little bit of something that they have not been able to experience. This time around we are taking the extra precautions to go out and have some fun,” Provchy said.
There are some families that have decided to not go out on Halloween night. Just because they may not be going out doesn’t mean they cannot join in on the fun.
Elia Duran is an expecting mother with three other children. Due to COVID, she has decided to include her kids with at-home activities only. “Yeah I’ll still have them dress up, I was thinking of getting them their favorite candies maybe at the store just so they can have something,” Duran said.
The CDC has listed some options for Halloween activities. These include low-risk and moderate activities, along with high-risk ones to avoid. A low-risk activity could be carving pumpkins. A high-risk activity may be an indoor crowded party.
People are getting creative this year to celebrate safely. The Hersheys company came up with the robot door that travels neighborhoods and dispenses candy. A dad used technology to transform his daughter into many different costumes.
Whether it be going out or staying in taking the proper precautions is always recommended by local authorities.
