Student views about virtual learning
Fresno state enrollment has increased five percent since fall 2019. With 25,300 students enrolled it is a record-high number for Fresno State, in spite of the nearly all classes being held online.
Students have mixed views when it comes to online classes.
Adriana Parada, a Fresno State freshman, said she enjoys the online semester because it allows her flexibility. “I also like it because we don’t have to jump from one class to another, and we also get to do our own work at our own pace,” said Parada.
She graduated from high school in the spring and the online semester allowed for a smooth transition into college. She felt that socializing in college would be hard. “I don’t really know how it would feel to interact with students in real life, in person that’d be a little stressful for me,” said Parada.
However, Miguel Sandoval, a Fresno State music major, does not feel the same way. Sandoval is considering switching majors to accommodate to being online.
“It made me lose my passion for music since I wasn’t able to go out there and make music with my friends like I used to,” said Sandoval.
He does not feel the same draw towards music now that he has to learn virtually. “It made it a lot difficult and kinda lost its meaning. We’re just recording our own parts and we put it together eventually except you’re by yourself,” said Sandoval.
Fresno State has announced another mostly virtual semester for spring 2021. Time will tell if enrollment numbers remain high.
