Local artists honor Kobe Bryant with a mural

Many artists are painting murals dedicated to Kobe Bryant. In Stockton, California, two local artists designed one dedicated to Bryant and his daughter, Gianna. The two were among nine people killed in a helicopter crash in January 2020.

“I’m familiar with his life story but even then with the Lakers winning the championship, it made me feel like the universe looks out for you sometimes,” said David, one of the mural’s painters.

Bryant spent all 20 of his NBA season with the Lakers, winning them 5 NBA titles. The Lakers won the title again in 2020, after the crash. Some took that as a sign. “You just feel the spirit sometimes after someone passes away. It felt like a sign to me that it happened,” said David.
