Feeding Your Pet Raw Food
A diet for pets not often talked about is an all raw food diet. This diet includes lots of organic, grass fed, high quality meats, bones and vital organs that provide optimal health benefits for one’s furry friend.
Some other organic fruits and veggies are also included in the diet along with quality eggs and limited dairy products.
Pet owners might consider switching to this diet to prevent future health issues or to treat ongoing health problems in their pets.
Rochelle Kuikahi has had her 3 dogs on the raw food diet for over 2 years now. “Our oldest dog was always prone to skin allergies and we found ourselves taking our dog to the vet at least once a month,” said Kuikahi.
Kuikahi wanted to avoid prescription medications and treatments for her dog. After consulting with their dog’s veterinarian, she and her husband started their dog on the diet.
After a few months, the dog started to show multiple improvements. “Some of the benefits that we saw right away were a shinier coat, his teeth and gums looked so much better. He stopped itching so much from his allergies and he had a lot of energy. He also leaned out a lot, even though he was never a chunky dog he just became really muscular,” said Kuikahi.
Kash, the oldest dog, almost never takes prescription medicine to treat his bad allergies. Kuikahi recommends that if people are interested in changing to the raw feeding diet that they do their homework and ask their pet’s vet.
Some dogs take well to the diet, others take a while to adjust. Every dog is different. People need to make sure their dog is getting a well-balanced diet and all of their nutrients when put on raw foods.
“You just really have to monitor in the beginning because all dogs are going to react differently to the raw food diet. But for our dogs it’s been nothing but beneficial,” said Kuikahi.
