Delano Voters Prepare For Very Important Election
Residents of the city of Delano hope this election will bring positive change to their community. The city has struggled with violence and rising rent since 2016, and some equate those outcomes with the election that year.
According to Neighborhood Scout, the crime rate in Delano is higher than that in 84% of U.S. cities. The rate has risen every year since 2016 with 2020 being the worst yet.
Gabriela Fernandez remembers the 2016 election well. “I was a little bit worried that this would eventually impact the way that we worked together to address local issues that impact us on a daily basis,” said Fernandez.
Not only have crime rates risen but rent has, as well. The rapidly-growing city has added several shopping blocks and new restaurants. Residents find living is now more expensive.
Many think voting can help change that. “I think we are going into the right direction addressing the situation with the proposition, I believe it’s 21, which will prevent landlords from raising rent unexpectedly or to an outrageous amount,” said Marcela Martinez, a Delano resident.
The impact of the election’s outcomes may take a while to see, but the Delano community is hoping for a positive change.
