Senior Swarm Eases the College Application Process for High School seniors

It’s time to be applying for college. However, with schools closed, high school seniors are turning to organizations like Senior Swarm for help with the college application process.

“Our main target is helping students, especially seniors because everything that comes along with the college application process is really hard to navigate,” said Estefania Avalos, a Mentorship Program coordinator and the co-executive team leader at Senior Swarm.

In the mentorship program, high school seniors are paired with college students to help them with the college application. Those application deadlines are quickly approaching.

“It’s November and I feel like that’s the peak of the college application process, where there’s like all these deadlines you have to reach,” said Jatziry Gonzalez, a Mentorship Program coordinator.

“It has facilitated the process for me, by a lot of the things that I had to do. For example, applying to the CSUs in our system as well as helping me with FAFSA,” said Jose Cruz, a high school senior who is taking advantage of the program.

“Anytime I had a doubt on how to input the A-G requirements in the CSU Application or even if I didn’t know the tax form, my mentor was there to help me,” Cruz said.

The Senior Swarm program is open to any high school senior, but specializes in those with limited resources.

“Help seniors who don’t get the same opportunities and resources as maybe other seniors who can receive more assistance,” Gonzalez said.

The program is free for all high school seniors across California. Even out of state students can apply.

“Our main goal is just to help students make informed decisions about their higher education,” Avalos said.
