Let’s Talk Racism With Global Campus Studio
This year Marion Coomey, professor at Ryerson University in Toronto invited some of the members from Fresno State Focus to participate in the Global Campus Studio newscast.
This newscast consists of multiple shows put together by students at universities around the globe.
“This semester were doing five half hour shows and they’re called Let’s Talk Racism. And they’re examining systemic racism around the world,” said Coomey.
This year’s theme was chosen after the George Floyd and Breonna Taylor incidents in spring 2020.
“How does this same issue of racism exists in other countries? How do they learn about it? What is their history? What do they know and what have they heard and George Floyd and Breonna Taylor?” asked Coomey.
This year’s newscast was intended to shed light on issues of systemic racism. The students participating cover how racism can be seen in their country.
Three members from Fresno State Focus will have their stories featured in the newscast. They will also take part in the debriefing segments of the newscast, sharing their thoughts on the stories they contributed.
Coomey and the participants around the world are in the final days of prep for this newscast. Plans to air Global Campus Studio newscast are set for mid-December 2020.
