Fresno State student is teaching other students to cook
Eugene Alvarez is a 57-year-old Fresno State student. He uploads cooking videos to the Fresno State Book Trade and Advice Facebook group to help students learn how to cook healthy meals.
Alvarez, who suffers from health related issues, said he started posting the recipe videos to prevent students from facing future health issues that can be prevented by eating healthy.
“You need that brain food and that helps for them to be successful,” Alvarez said. “You know, Fresno State says, [they are] going to do this or do that so [students] can succeed, but what also helps them succeed is also eating right.”
Ashley Glougie, who is also a Fresno State student, said she found Alvarez’s recipes while scrolling through Facebook one day. Glougie considers herself a foodie, so decided to try his taco salad recipe.
“I actually had a lot of fun [making the taco salad] and I’m definitely putting it on my meal planning list and I’m gonna [make it] again.”
Glougie recommends Alvarez videos to any students looking for advice and tips on how to create healthy meals, even with the food you have at home.
