How Pets Have Helped During COVID
Studies done by the CDC show that owning a pet can benefit our mental health in many ways. The bond between a person and their pet can lower stress and bring happiness to their owners.
During the quarantine, people are getting pets to stay busy and feel less lonely.
“Quarantine forced me to stay inside, ” says Judy Chhoeung. She got her puppy, Mochi, during the first lockdown. “I was just sleeping all day and instead of sleeping all day I diverted all of this time into raising this puppy.”
During the first lockdown she found herself in bed for days with no motivation to get up. Now she spends her free time with Mochi playing inside, going on walks, or having some fun at the dog park. “He’s just become such a huge part of my life by helping me keep my mental emotions stable,” said Chhoeung. She feels that if she hadn’t gotten him, she would still be in a huge rut right now.
“Having a companion really boosted my mental health and helped me be happier,” said Chhoeung. “He’s my little protector.”
