Studying during COVID
Many students who moved back in with their parents during COVID-19 are having trouble studying because of distractions.
Maritza Lopez-Martinez, a Fresno State student, moved back in with her parents thinking she would only be staying for a few months. However, those few months turned into a year.
“It has been difficult because my sister was pregnant and we [also had] a newborn in the family, so at first it was really frustrating,” Lopez-Martinez said. “The first couple weeks [were just me] trying to adapt to my nephew.”
Her nephew would cry a lot of the time, interfering with not only her sleep schedule, but also her studying. She found herself staying up very late into the night just so she could study.
Eventually, Lopez-Martinez decided to move out. She’ll be leaving before 2021 ends.
For those students who have similar situations that of Lopez-Martinez, Fresno State student and mother Erica Ramirez has two tips for getting rid of distractions.
“Try buying earphones. I know some people like listening to music when they study,” Ramirez said. “Or go study outside. You get the fresh air.”
Studying outside could also help improve your mood and reduce stress, according to a study at Ashford University.
