Virtual Midterm Preparation
Midterms can be a stressful time, especially while taking them online. As Fresno State students begin their third semester taking midterms virtually, the stress and anxiety piles on.
Sophomore Jessica Burson maintains strong study habits throughout the term, which helps at midterm exam time.
“The best way to study is to remember that you need to retain information. How I have been able to retain it is I coordinate certain colors. I color coordinate certain chapters or certain sections of the book and that’s how I am able to remember for this section, that’s what it is,” said Burson.
Staying on top of school work and being self motivated can be a challenge. These resources can help students prepare for exams.
The Fresno State Henry Madden Library is a lot quieter than usual during midterm season. Due to COVID-19, all library services are now being offered virtually through Zoom.
The Learning Center also operates through Zoom, with over 40 tutors available for students Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Academic Support Coordinator William Hardaway shares the simplicity of accessing the learning center from home. “Students don’t have to worry about juggling a bunch of different links. We have close to 40 tutors, and we have one central link with a waiting room and they come in and are greeted by actual real people,” said Hardaway.
The Learning Center offers supplementation instruction (SI) tutoring sessions as well as normal drop-in tutoring for students. The student response towards online tutoring has been positive as students enjoy being able to pop in from home and still receive the same tutoring experience.
The Learning Center can be reached at 559-278-3052 or by accessing their Zoom link on their website.
