Getting the leftover vaccine

Pharmacies are giving the COVID-19 vaccine to those who are eligible. However, Jennifer Brantley, who does not fall into an eligible category, was still able to get vaccinated.

She did so by calling her local pharmacy and being added to a waiting list. Later that night she got a call and was vaccinated by 8 p.m. She said they never asked for proof of eligibility.

Pharmacists say not all pharmacies will do this. Some will ask for proof before giving out even leftover vaccines.

“Everybody has different reasons for wanting to get themselves vaccinated and I have little kids that I want to keep myself alive for,” Brantley said. “I feel luck that I was able to call that day and get it.”

In May 2021, everyone will be allowed to receive the vaccine, but if you do not feel like waiting, you can call your local pharmacy to see if you can be put on a waiting list, so no vaccines are wasted.
