Beautify Fresno: More than an organization
Beautify Fresno is cleaning up Fresno one neighborhood at a time.
It’s more than an event or an organization; it’s a concept.
Mayor Jerry Dyer said “Beautify Fresno means people taking pride in their community, taking pride in their neighborhoods.”
At a cleanup event in the Kings Canyon and Cedar neighborhoods, over 170 volunteers showed up to take pride in their commuity.
One of these volunteers is Mederios Babb, who has been to multiple events. She explained that at the end of the day, while her arms might be sore, there’s another feeling that overpowers that.
“[I’m] feeling accomplished, feeling like we’re making a difference and they always say that every little thing that you do, does make a big impact.”
In the Kings Canyon and Cedar area, volunteers picked up 218 bags, equaling over 1,600 pounds of trash removed from the area.
Areas that were once littered, are now trash free. This is a sight that fills the director of Beautify Fresno, Mark Standriff, with excitement.
“You can look down these streets, and go into the neighborhoods and look down the alleys, and what was filled with trash is now completely clean,” said Standriff. “That sense of accomplishment is so gratifying.”
Beautify Fresno has events on various Saturday mornings. Each event is in a different area.
