Fresno State Focus wins 2021 WAVE award

Fresno State Focus was honored with the 2021 WAVE award for the category of News Coverage.

The winning entry was the April 22, 2020 broadcast by the Spring 2020 MCJ 128 class.

A student in the class, Gio Alvarado, knows what made the coverage so exceptional. “It was something new. We were able to put everything together and do it online. So, I feel like we earned this because it was the teamwork,” said Alvarado.

WAVE stands for Western Access Video Excellence. The award is given by the Alliance for Community Media West Region. This organization supports and recognizes community media centers throughout six western states, including Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Nevada and New Mexico.

The 2021 win marks the sixth consecutive year Fresno State Focus has won this award.
