Graduating Seniors Next Step
Before seniors get ready to graduate, they decorate their graduation caps, they take pictures, some apply for graduate school, some begin job hunting, and others take it day by day. It’s a mix of high emotions and excitement.
Perla Torres is a sociology major and 2021 graduate. “After graduation I do want to take like the summer off,” said Torres, a sociology major and a 2021 graduate. “I do want to travel at first at least.”
After she is done traveling, Torres plans to start her career path to be a probation officer.
On the other hand, seniors like Juan Beltran are already booked for the summer and are looking ahead into their future career. Beltran is a communications major with a minor in theater arts.
Beltran will spend his summer helping out with Dog Days, the incoming freshman orientation, before he officially says goodbye to the campus.
He also works for the United Spirit Association. He will be traveling up and down the west coast for his job this summer too.

“I want to be involved, help others, and make people smile,” said Beltran. “Sports and higher education is kind of the path I want to be at right now.”
Beltran has been applying for jobs in the sports industry.
Then there are seniors like psychology major Mikayla Gomes who are continuing their education.
“I’m kind of excited to go back to school to start my next degree, you know the sooner I finish this degree, the sooner I can finish the next one, then graduate and just start the job I want,” said Gomes. “I’m just most excited to go back which is kind of funny to say.”
Gomes plans to go into the Master of Science in Marriage, Family, and Child Counseling Program at Fresno State.
Her overall career goal is to be a marriage and family therapist.

Some, like Beltran, are also the first to graduate college in their family. “I think I am most excited about being a first gen graduate and being that pioneer for my family,” said Beltran, with a big smile on his face.
As the class of 2021 gets ready to graduate, Gomes advises incoming freshmen to balance work and fun.
“Don’t kind of get distracted by the big lights of college,” said Gomes.
Congratulations to the graduating seniors!
