Staying Focused on Fresno State Focus
Producing a live news show is no easy task, but with the world being in a pandemic, the task gets slightly harder.
“Usually you just want to reach in and go, ‘Oh yeah, just push this here,’ but now everybody thinks about what they touch and how close they are to other people,” says Carey Higgins-Dobney, the head director of the crew portion of Fresno State Focus
From having to pre-record the show, to having a show get canceled for a week because of a COVID scare, things may seem bad, but the professors have seen a silver lining. They’ve noticed an increase in creativity and a sense of unity with the students.
With the COVID-19 guidelines in place, the students are having to wear multiple hats when producing the show. This may seem stressful, but Higgins says this scenario is what the students will realistically face in the field. She also says she is proud of her students this semester as they are able to adapt quickly to whatever comes at them.

“It’s been fun and it’s great to be back. I can’t wait until we are able to add more things we can do here with more people and be able to touch things without being afraid of being in other people’s space,” Higgins said.
With Fresno State Focus aiming to be back in person for the Fall 2021 semester, everyone is excited to go back to producing the show like normal.
