Alert! Campus Safety: Big Red Buttons
Fresno State police are prepared to fight criminal activity with beacons of help throughout the campus.
These bright blue beacons are emergency phones located all over campus. You’ll find them in parking lots, classrooms, offices, elevators and outdoors. If you are in an emergency or feel threatened, simply press the big red button.
Chloe Cantu attends in-person classes on campus.
“Normally I’ll walk with a buddy,” Cantu says. “That’s my best method of transportation around here if it’s later at night. I’ve never actually had to use the campus resources, but I know of a couple of girls that have had to and get escorted to the parking lot and their class.”
The buddy system works to discourage crooks.
Public information officer Tony Botty, who works for the Fresno County Sheriff’s office advises students to pay attention to their surroundings.
“Keep your head up,” Botti says. “Don’t get buried in your phone where you make yourself a target for somebody to take advantage of. There’s a lot to be said about walking with your head up making eye contact with people. We know that crooks a lot of time look for people who are vulnerable.”
Fresno State police say you should do your part to stay safe. If you are a victim of a crime or a witness to one, call 9-1-1.
